DIVERSions – Independent Culture and the Swiss Cultural Programme in Macedonia From October 23rd to November 24th the Swiss Cultural Programme (SCP) local office Skopje will present and showcase a series of cultural and artistic events under the title “DIVERSions – Independent Culture and the Swiss Cultural Programme in Macedonia”.
The purpose of the series of events is to mark the ten years anniversary of the SCP work in Macedonia and announce the closing of the SCP local office in Skopje and of the Small Actions programme line by celebrating and presenting its support to the independent cultural scene in Macedonia. All future projects for Macedonia will be administered and run from the SCP Regional Office in Sarajevo.
The SCP has provided vital contributions and support to the development of the independent culture sector in Macedonia. As an example in the past ten years the SCP Small Actions line has supported 448 applications from Macedonia with a total amount of 1,153,555 CHF. Also in the period 2005-2007 The SCP through its Regional Small Actions supported 13 projects with an amount of 32'178 CHF where Macedonia was also involved.
As a confirmation the program offers various cultural activities organized in collaboration with selected SCP local partners. These include: a conference on independent culture, concerts and theatrical performances, contemporary dance productions and exhibitions.
The program starts with the regional conference called “Exit Europe” which will take place on October 23rd at the Cultural Centre Tocka in Skopje.
The conference is organized in partnership with cultural actors from both the former Yugoslavia and the EU. It is part of the Trans Balkans Express project that aims at empowering relevant cultural ex-Yugoslav organizations to formulate and affect EU cultural policies, i.e. to articulate proposals regarding cultural production and cooperation, and to share regional and European know-how and best practices. Simultaneously, the project will stimulate national authorities to get more involved in these issues. The project aims to secure the voice of the independent cultural sector of the region and ensure that it is heard, both on EU and national levels, and to promote the region as a constituent part of Europe that is able to participate in the re-building of the European cultural space.
The events organized under DIVERSions will be covered for the duration of the series by the Cross Radio, with a special programme aired every Saturday at 18:00h on the Macedonian radio broadcaster, Kanal 103.
